"What Do You Do When You're Twelve Years Old?"
LaCASA's 2007 Women Helping Women luncheon was a phenomenal success on many levels. With the help of volunteers and supporters of all kinds, we raised $80,000! These funds will be used to support our prevention work and provide our unique and empowering programs free-of-charge to survivors of sexual violence such as Dawn Radcliffe-Snell, who shared so eloquently that day. Icing on the cake is that many of the luncheon guests are now pursuing volunteer opportunities here at LaCASA. We always need help of all sorts – time, service, and financial support.
The energy and enthusiasm generated by this event and our nearly 600 guests was amazing and humbling. It is the participation of so many friends of LaCASA that kindles this experience for all of us. We do not do this work alone, and there is no way we could continue without this help.
This fabulous luncheon fundraiser included tours of the LaCASA/Zacharias Center, a silent auction, raffle, survivor narrative, live music, and fabulous raffle prizes! Anita Padilla, NBC5 News, was master of ceremonies. The keynote address was presented by Alice Vachss, former Chief of the Special Victims Bureau of the Queens (NY) DA's Office. During her tenure, she prosecuted more than 100 felony cases to verdict, including rape, child sexual assault, elder abuse, domestic violence, cult abuse, and homicide.
Thank you to everyone who supported this event:
