I Want to Act...
From a very young age, children are taught to honor and trust their parents, family members and elders in the community.
Yet every day, in every community, people betray the trust and honor that every individual deserves by sexually assaulting or abusing another child, woman or man. Often the perpetrator is known to the victim, being a family member, friend, neighbor, teacher or even a member of the clergy.
These startling statistics illustrate the severity of the sexual assault crisis in the U.S.:
- 1 in every 3-4 girls is sexually assaulted at least once before age 18.
- 1 in every 4-6 boys is sexually assaulted at least once before age 18.
- 1 in every 3 women will be sexually abused in her lifetime.
- 75% of sexual assaults are committed by someone the survivor knows and trusts.
Reversing this trend begins with awareness.
